CEAS has reserved blocks of rooms at 5 hotels in Lawrence. These are the first 5 hotels on the list below. In addition, we have provided information on other hotels in Lawrence where you are welcome to book a room instead.  For conference participants who have not arrived by car or who do not wish to drive to campus, we will run a shuttle to and from the Holiday Inn, the Hampton Inn, the Springhill Suites, and the Eldridge. The Oread is within walking distance of campus, as is the Halcyon House.

  1. Holiday Inn  60 rooms are held

Lawrence Holiday Inn Hotel is located at 200 McDonald Drive, Lawrence, KS (6 minute drive to KU campus).It is convenient location just off of I-70 and within 10 blocks of KU. Amenities include a pool, fitness center, restaurant, laundry valet, complimentary wireless internet, free parking, safe deposit box at front desk, newspaper delivered, cable TV includes HBO and more click here.   • Please call Sales Office directly and ask for Heather Shull at (785) 749-8932, Monday thru Friday, 8am to 5pm and She can book your reservations from her desk so long as you give her the group block name, “KU East Asian Studies.”
  • Please call the hotel at (785) 841-7077 and to ask for reservations. You will be transferred to reservation desk and when you make your reservation, please provide the group name “KU East Asian Studies.”
  • Please call 1 -800-Holiday (465-4329) and book through the main Holiday Inn phone line. You must provide the group name “KU East Asian Studies.”

New M.A. Program

The Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS) at The University of Kansas is offering a new M.A. program in Contemporary East Asian Studies, beginning in the 2014-2015 academic year. Full-time students with prior East Asian language training will be able to complete the degree within 12 months. KU Works for Kansas: A Free Undergraduate Study Tour of Japan

CEAS conducted a Kakehashi Project-Bridge for Tomorrow study tour to Japan for 23 students from colleges and universities throughout Kansas in summer 2014. The tour, which was funded by the Japan Foundation and led by CEAS members Maggie Childs (core faculty) and Nancy Hope (staff), visited selected sites in Tokyo and Shizuoka June 23rd - July 3rd.  For more about the Project, view the video, the itinerary, or excerpts from participant reports. This fall, the Kansas students will make presentations about Japan at local elementary and secondary schools, while CEAS will host 23 students from Shizuoka University who are visiting KU in early spring as part of their Kakehashi tour of America.
