Tuition Waiver Scholarship


Overview

The Center's new Tuition Waiver Scholarship provides FREE TUITION for the following 3-credit Tibetan and Uyghur language courses to ANYONE, including non-KU students and members of the general public, interested in learning these languages. 

Fall Semester

  • TibetanTIB 101 Elementary Tibetan & TIB 201 Intermediate Tibetan
  • UyghurUYGR 101 Elementary Uyghur & UYGR 201 Intermediate Uyghur

Spring Semester

  • TibetanTIB 102 Elementary Tibetan* & TIB 202** Intermediate Tibetan [Prerequisite: *TIB 101 or **TIB 201 or instructor's permission]
  • UyghurUYGR 102 Elementary Uyghur*, UYGR 202 Intermediate Uyghur** & EALC 590 Advanced Uyghur II*** [Prerequisite: *UYGH 101, **UYGH 201, or *** EALC 590 Advanced Uyghur I or instructor's permission]

All courses are offered in a synchronous hybrid format (online or in-person). 



Fees: While the scholarship pays for tuition, students are responsible for the University of Kansas application fee ($40 domestic; $85 international) and student fees ($285.30) when they enroll for the course.

How to Apply

You will need to fill out an online application (bottom of the page) that includes a one-page single-spaced statement of interest, a C.V. or resume, and transcripts (non-KU students) or a current KU Degree Progress Report. Your statement of interest should

  1. addresses why you are interested in learning the Tibetan or Uyghur language and
  2. explains how this language scholarship will benefit you and enhance your research, academic, and career development and/or life goals.

The scholarship committee will begin reviewing applications immediately after the deadline. Applicants will  be notified whether they have received a scholarship by the end of December
